American Food Venture Forum Invites 22 Companies to Present to VCs

As President and founder of the American Food Venture Forum (AFVF) I am especially proud of the progress we have made in two short years. It shows what can happen when a critical need is addressed by committed, experienced volunteers. The AFVF is thought to be the only venture capital forum in the U.S. devoted exclusively to the food technology industry. It is held the same week in October as the World Food Prize festivities, both in Des Moines, Iowa. I would be amiss if I did not thank the World Food Prize staff for their support in getting this off the ground, along with our major sponsor, the Iowa Department of Economic Development and our other sponsors.

Last year was the first year for the conference and until a couple of weeks prior to the conference we were not sure we would pull it off. We got a late start and had to hustle to get companies to present and VC's to attend. We pulled it off and sponsors and the press deemed it a success. We had 22 companies apply for 15 presenter slots. We ended up with 15 quality companies from ten states from every region of the U.S.

This year we announced that we would expand the number of slots to twenty.  We received 40 applications for presenters from the U.S., Canada, Bolivia and Paraguay. Given the quality of applicants we  expanded the number of presenters to twenty-two companies instread of twenty. Again the invited presenters are from around the U.S. but this year two Canadian companies were selected, as well. Below is a short description of each:
